SSCS - Expressive Arts Department

As a Business and Enterprise College the Expressive Arts Faculty investigates ways in which this specialism can be embedded into the curriculum. Students within the Faculty learn self-reliance and self-motivation through sport as well as Leadership skills that will benefit them now and in their careers beyond school. Students of The Media investigate how new products are designed and marketed and gain an understanding of how entrepreneurs operate in real world situations.

Students of the Arts are introduced to how the Arts industry operates, how funding for Arts projects are sought and how to exhibit works to an audience.

As part of its extra-curricular provision a group of students and young people from the local community have formed their own independent film company, Barnacles Films, and have raised funds to produce their own short film. Barnacles Films is currently raising funds and developing a second project. Students are also involved with marketing the Annual School Musical.

Expressive Arts is a large, vibrant Faculty in which the Students learn through Expression in the fields of The Arts and Sport. Subjects within the Faculty include: Physical Education, Music, Drama, Art, Dance, and Medias Studies.

Students follow courses in Physical Education, Dance, Drama, Music and Art as compulsory subjects at Key Stage 3 and can opt for these subjects at Key Stage 4

The Faculty has a full range of extra-curricular activities including Sports Teams, a thriving school choir, Dance groups, Art Club, a young filmmakers group and a Drama club. Once a year these combine to produce a full Scale School Musical. Recent shows include The Wizard of Oz and Romeo and Juliet: The Musical.
