Underwater services

Most services are conducted based on knowledge and skills. It is important to note that oceans and seas are dangerous places to tread in without particular skills. In this connection, divers ought to be equipped with professional skills and know-how of the underwater world. Despite the need for knowledge, machines used in underwater operations are modernized and customized to serve their purpose accordingly. The collaboration of skilled divers and up-to-date machines accrues to a basket full of benefits.

Underwater navigation

Some skills are applied by deep-sea navigators to ascertain safety and to reach their destination successfully. The underwater navigation skills include:

  1. Pilotage: This skill entails the use of a nautical chart to identify critical areas in the water. The key areas are natural features and visible landmarks such as sunlight rays, deep-sea vents, reefs, and water movement. One can quickly locate their movement using such phenomena in the case when other sea workers lose them. It is wise to know that noise in some parts of the waters is more intense than others and that some noises strictly belong to certain places. Consequently, noise is also applied to direct divers in their navigation.
  2. Use of compass navigation: This requires extra knowledge in compass reading since one has to undergo training that combines experience to bring expertise. The compass gives distance information, and in some cases, actual measurements are provided. It also counts kick cycles which are majorly based on a diver`s speed. A complete kick cycle entails total upward and downward movement of the legs under its flippers. Similarly, the compass informs more about the time used to reach specific landmarks and phenomena.
  3. Use of guidelines: Pilotage and compass use may not work due to low visibility and rough water movements, making it difficult to see clearly. In such instances, a rope that is made of a conspicuous color is used to mark starting points and major navigation routes. Some people refer to it as a jackstay, penetration line, or distance line. A jackstay will help locate safe grounds in the water, thus preventing possible hazards.

It is a jackpot to keep in mind that swimming prowess does not compare you to a skilled deep-sea diver and scuba diver.
